Utopia

I've been thinking & reading up on this concept of utopias or "ideal societies". People often say "A perfect society doesn't exist". Alright, sure. Perfection is often an unattainable concept but let's put it in alternate terms. A straight line between two points is perfect, right? You can't find a shorter distance between two points other than a straight line, so that straight line is perfect, therefore, simple practicality can be considered perfect. A country that uses solar buses in an uninterrupted transport system might be considered ideal right? Maybe, utopian? For, South Africans a country with an efficient 24/7 transport system is pretty close to a utopia.

What I am trying to get at is that utopia is often closer than most think. A country that is simply run well with anti-corruption laws is utopia for me. I look at European, Asian & American countries & just long for just things these people take for granted. A government that actually works & gets people jobs should they want jobs, decent housing, infrastructure. All these things are just simple, negligible things in other countries. A country that speaks one language is almost standard in all developed countries around the world yet countries in Africa struggle with this. Maybe African people are too trapped in the system & think it's the only way things should be, too caught up to take a step back & see what is the root of their problem.

Ofcourse, development comes at a price but there's this thing called maths & not stealing tax money that might help in calculating & finding finances for state projects. We have a sad case in Africa of governments being more concerned with celebrities & social media personalities than developing the land. It's just a case of the people in government having mixed-up priorities. A tweet is not more important than creating infrastructure, this is common knowledge. But then again, maybe a tweet from a random individual is more important than running a country, in that case we should create a new Ministry of Tweets to see what odd drunks & random village idiots are tweeting about online. *shrugs & looks around in confusion*

For me, a utopia is simply a country that finds solutions for its' problems e. g. punishment for littering, efficient transport systems, anti-corruption legal framework, homeless shelters, refugee camps... all these are standard in developed countries. Simple problem solving measures can turn a slum or ghetto into a suburb & turn a third world country into a developed country without getting into intricate economic terms & fiscal policies, just basics; food, shelter & water is what people need then education, transport & employment. It really does not take a genius to turn an underdeveloped area into an area with some dignity & cleanliness. Utopia is only far because you think it's far.
